Grew Up

The sand kept slipping down the sand clock
Too slow to notice the sinking
Destiny and Time, Oh good play-masters!
Tricked one and all very much sneakily

People changed and left but not those things,
Attachment towards relations shifted towards materiality
When “Oh my, he’s just so bad” turned to “Oh, I never knew his story!”
Yes it’s then we learnt that we grew up.

When the complaining tantrums of the little girl
Turned to the silent crying routine at nights
When the silent suffering was peaceful than the “fighting for justice” drama
When adjustments felt more comfortable than expressing pain and trauma
Yes it’s then we learnt that she grew up

When procrastination was all cool
When surfing through options were just okay
Suddenly when the reality slaps the ticking clock
Yes it’s then we learnt that we grew up

When the mischievous pranks of the gang were patented only by him
When maturity seeped in too deep turning him inert and still
When the fragile drama queen stepped into the shoes of responsibilities
Yes it's then we learnt that they grew up

When no more could we afford the extra sleep
When no more we could be all bubbly and sweet
When no more we could rely on others..
Oh my…. Managing things all alone, Yes it’s then we learnt that we finally grew up.
