Peth Fort Trek

Calling myself an Adventure lover in 2015 had an apprehension after having a series of health issues since November 2013. I actually used to fear to claim myself to be fine because as soon as I did so the health issue would turn up again in few days.

My friend is a volunteer at Envoventure Trekking club (Now renamed as Trekfit) which organizes treks to near by places in Maharashtra. After cancelling many of his invites and fed up of the routine and recurring health issues, I dared to go for it.

3rd January 2015
With the ring of my new alarm clock at 4am, all ready with my extra care kit (medicines), the excited me and my colony friend (another trek lover) with my volunteer friend met our group at Thane Station. Two more of my friends accompanied us and the rest of the group members were new to me.
We boarded the Karjat fast train to Neral. The journey was full of cool breeze and talks with a few known friends.

We had Poha and Frooti as breakfast and got into our respective vans to head towards our trek-start point - Ambivli village. We tolerated some horrible old sad songs accompanied by crazy comments from the boys at the back in the van while heading towards Ambivli.
Beginning of the trek was alright but later on it was all steep slopes to be climbed upwards. I began to halt every two minutes and repented on attending the trek. I began to go breathless and thoughts like "Am I going to reach home alive?" started running in my mind.
After a while it felt fine while walking on the normal path.
This was what the final destination looked like when we were done with 10% of the climb :

Obviously I could not click this for memory
 during our time.
This comes after the village.
The adventurous rocky part.
Now you can guess why those thoughts gushed through my mind

The Normal Path  :) before the village
We all were amazed to see a village all the way up there. We wondered how do people commute to get their necessities! We halted there for a glass of Nimbu Pani, filled our bottles and clicked some  pics with new friends. We sat there on wooden planks under the shade waiting for our lemon juices to refill our lost souls which had evaporated in the heat!
The Village (one side view without the crowd)

After the village, we had another adventurous climb with rocks all around. I wish I had a few clicks of those as memory as that was the tough part for me. We had to climb with the support of a pipe. By the time I had reached the top, I had a real huge doubt on my stamina and got reminded of the thought (my modification) "Only studies with a hectic schedule and No play makes Jack a dull Boy" Physically Dull indeed.

There was not much of scenery to capture as everything around was too dry. We finally reached the Fort. All of us halted there for a while. We had our lunch up there. The fort continued upwards with steep steps (which were meant to be steep for horses those days).
The view up there was amazing they said but I decided to stay down inside the fort. Me and my other friend who was troubled with severe headache, rested there for a while, spoke to people from other trekking groups; where we also met a group of just three boys who keep trekking places in Maharashtra. They seemed like they had bunked office and brought me to surprise of them trekking in formals.

They were all sharing their experiences. Meanwhile I took care of my friends' bags and began to click pics. Everything around way too dry, January being the wrong time to trek this place! My friend and me as usual again got back to serious career discussion and post exam planning [which was not supposed to be done during holidays and at such places but we are some hopeless creatures (winks*) We begin with weird topics anywhere]
Our other friends then had returned and we filled our bottles again and began to climb down after the lunch inside the fort. The water was very sweet :)

Lunch inside the Fort.

This was the view from the fort.

It was a great exercise and a call alert to myself to maintain health or else my dream for trekking various places will settle down to those grandmother talks/dairy write ups of "I wanted to do bla bla stuff when I was young :P"

The climb downwards was nice and quick. I came down by sitting and sliding on the rocks as I was not sure of my own balance to risk it with slipping and skidding by walking them on! We didn't halt at all. The climb down was more fun as we got along very well with new friends, sang songs, had all possible yack yack talks and it was all a great memory.
The journey back from Ambivli to Neral station was full of Honey Singh songs and rap in the van where I found it very surprising of my colony friend who was in deep sleep in such a noisy vehicle. I do not like Honey Singh songs that much but surprisingly I enjoyed them that day.
The train journey from Neral - Karjat- Thane was all the more memorable and fun as we shamelessly sang songs loud out throughout the journey. The co-passengers(tired office goers) seemed to enjoy looking at us and they had a nostalgic smile (may be reminiscing their college days).

After getting home, with a nice hot shower, I was all wide awake and fresh then to wind up for the day. So I transferred the pics from my phone to the PC and while I was viewing them, I also happened to google the place and it made me feel that it would have been amazing if we had been there immediately after the rains or during the rains. Our trek didn't have much of green and beauty to gaze on but looking at the pics on internet there aroused a desire in me to trek this place again post rains.
I played chess online- my daily puzzle and tactics training and then soft music made me say Good Night :)
